I realised recently that my inspiration probably came from my Granda in Ireland. He was a keen photographer and would often gather us round for a slide show. Amongst the seaside snaps there were always pictures celebrating the prized blooms and hanging baskets he and my Granny had nurtured.
While I was lucky enough to do photography GCSE, I was nearly put off for life by an uninspiring teacher and feeling totally baffled by my first SLR. I first started mucking about with the office digital camera in 2003; the day I stumbled on the macro feature I discovered a new world.
Photography is my hobby and my escape. As a geek and a telly addict I devote far too much of my waking life to staring at a glowing box and not enough time looking at the real world and getting any fresh air. Photographing flowers is my counter to this, although sometimes going for a walk with me and my camera is as much fun as going for a walk with a toddler.
My work is about stopping to appreciate the beautiful colours and shapes created by nature. Living in a climate where the days of blue skies are outnumbered by the grey days, it's also about bringing the sunny outside in, whether it's into the home or the workplace. I hope you enjoy it.
